Blanchard High School
The Blanchard Lions went on the road at Cache to open the 2017 season and came away with a big win to start the season at 1-0. The Lions got off to a rough start when Cache intercepted Camden Cooper’s pass on the second play of the game, but the Lion defense held tough and kept the Bulldogs out of the end zone. Jackson Greenwood finished off the series by getting a hand on the FG try and the tone for night had been set. The Lion offense struggled the first half, but the big highlight was a beautiful deep pass from Camden Cooper to Jamie Nance that hit him in stride and he raced 92 yards for the first score of the night. That would be the extent of the scoring in the first half and the Lions took a 6-0 lead to the halftime locker room. The Bulldogs got the ball to start the second half and the Lion defense started up where they left off in the first half by holding the Cache offense to 3 plays and a punt. The Blanchard offense looked a little ragged on their first 2 plays of the second half, but a short pass to Nance turned into a big 31 yard gain and the offense seemed to find their bearings after that. On the second play after Nance’s reception, Bryce Madron squirted through the Bulldog defense and outraced all to the endzone for a 52 yard score. With Hamlin’s PAT, the Lions were quickly up 13-0. After a couple more defensive stops, the Lions got the ball back and Camden Cooper raced around the right end then cut back across the field for a big 47 yard TD run pushing the score to 20-0 in favor of the Lions. On Cache’s first play, the Lion D forced a fumble that was recovered by Brantley Lawson setting the Lion offense up with great field position. The offense would stall and Landon Hamlin missed a 39 yard FG leaving the score at 20-0, but the offense would regroup and a couple possessions later Cole Smith ran around the left end and broke and tackle a scored on a 37 yard jaunt to the endzone. Hamlin tacked on the PAT and the lead had ballooned to 27-0. On the following kickoff, Cache would get their only score of the night when Hayden Nunley raced 99 yards to paydirt. He would tack on the final 2 points for the final score of 27-8.
The Lions will come home next week for a non-district clash with the Lone Grove Longhorns. Kickoff is set for 7:30.
