Game Recap

The Lions didn’t waste any time getting started Friday night at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex. On Lone Grove’s opening possession, Marc Parks deflected a 3rd down pass attempt by the Longhorns and Jaxon Stratton swallowed up the deflected pass and raced to the Longhorn 14 yard line to set the Lions up with great field position. The offense didn’t waste any time either as Bryce Madron took the 2nd play from scrimmage 1 yard into the endzone and with Landon Hamlin’s PAT the Lions were out to a quick 7-0 lead. After both teams exchanged punts on their next possessions, Camden Cooper found a streaking Jamie Nance behind the Lone Grove secondary and hit him in stride with a beautiful 52 yard scoring strike to put the Lions up 14-0. Blanchard would get into the endzone 3 more times in the second half on scoring runs of 8 yards by Camden Cooper, 1 yard by Marc Parks and a 52 yard Punt Return from Jamie Nance. The Lions went into halftime with a comfortable 35-0 lead. After the halftime festivities were finished, the Lions didn’t waste any time getting started where they left off in the first half. Jaxon Stratton fielded a short kickoff and quickly raced through the middle of the Longhorn cover team and outran them to the endzone and just like that the Lions were up 42-0. Blanchard would round out their scoring on the night when Landon Hamlin kicked a 19 yard FG with 2:20 left in the 3rd for a comfortable margin of 45-0. Lone Grove would put together their best drive of the night at the end of the 3rd quarter and midway through the 4th quarter taking the ball down the field on a 17 play drive that used up most of the 4th quarter. That ended the scoring for the night and the final margin of 45-7 was set. The Lion defense was stellar once again limiting the Longhorns to 176 total yards (113 gained on last 2 possessions in the game). The defense set the offense up all night with great field position and helped to win the turnover battle for the Lions. The defense forced 4 fumbles (by Diego Ortegon, Ryan Bracken and Shane Oliver, recovering 2 (by Carson Craig and Diego Ortegon), and had one interception. The Lions also found about every way possible to score, doing it by the run, the pass, punt return and kickoff return. The Lions will travel next week to Newcastle to face the Racers for the last non-district game with a 7:00 start time scheduled.
