Game Recap

The Lions opened district play at home Friday vs. Tri City rival Tuttle Tigers and came away with a hard fought 23-14 victory in front of an overflow crowd at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex moving their season record to 4-0 and 1-0 in district play. Once again, the offense had their highlights, but the defense was the answer coming up with big stops when it counted most. The biggest of those was a 91 yard interception return by Reilly Bussey when the Lions were nursing a 13-7 lead in the 4th quarter. Bussey pulled the pass in at the Lions 1 yard line and raced all the way to the Tiger 5 yard line setting the Lions up with great field position. The Lions punched it in to pull ahead 20-7 for a little breathing room. That didn’t last too long as Tuttle hit a long pass and then crossed the goal line with 4:20 left in the quarter to pull back withing 6 at 20-14. The Lions defense would come up big again as they squashed the next Tuttle drive by stopping the Tigers on 4th down deep in Tiger territory. The Lions moved the ball into FG position while running the clock down, setting up Landon Hamlin for the game clinching 32 yard FG with :50 seconds left. The Blanchard defense had a big night with QB sacks by Ryan Bracken, Diego Ortegon and Jackson Greenwood. Interceptions by Bussey, Marc Parks, and Ronnie Brown also ended Tiger drives. The Lions will take their 1-0 district record on the road next week as they travel to Tecumseh for a 7:30 kickoff
