Middle School Wrestling · Wiese Junior High State Champion, Dawson Runner-up


Oklahoma City, OK – The 43rd Annual Junior High All State tournament was held on Friday, February 2nd, and Saturday, February 3rd, at the Jim Norick State Fair Arena.  The “junior high state tournament” is an open tournament that is not divided by OSSAA classes.

The Lions had 2 placers including a State Champion in Ryder Wiese who won the heavyweight bracket.  Weise went 5-0 in the tournament winning his first two matches by fall.  He picked up a 7-5 decision in the quarter finals and a 9-0 major decision over Talon Phillips from Lawton MacArthur in the Semi-finals.   Weise wrestled Omari Smith of Heritage Hall in the finals where Weise edged out the victory with a 1-0 decision to capture the State Championship.

Also making the finals for the Lions was Brent Dawson who wrestled in the 118 pound bracket.  Dawson won his first five matches to earn a spot in the Championship bout including two falls in his first two matches.  He then won his 3rd round and quarter-final matches by 7-2 and 9-4 decisions, respectively.  Dawson then shut out Walker Hill of Bixby in the semi-finals by score of 6-0.  In the championship match Dawson faced off against Jordan Cullors of Collinsville.  Dawson battled in the finals but dropped the match by a score of 3-6.  Dawson received State Runner-up honors.
