After 4 scoreless quarters, the Lions and Redskins had to move to overtime to try and decide a winner of Tuesday night’s game at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex. A fumble recovery by Ross Johnston thwarted a potential McLoud TD drive in the 3rd quarter and an interception by Keegan Graves stopped another drive in the 4th quarter to keep the Lions alive. In the first OT period, on 3rd down at the 9, Jared Wrigley found Caleb Greenwood for the touchdown pass. The 2 point try would fail and the Lions had the 6-0 lead. McLoud would take over and score on their first play with a 10 yard run, but the Lions’ defense would hold on the 2 point try on a big hit by Ross Johnston keeping the score tied at 6-6. Moving to the 2nd overtime, McLoud would get the ball first on offense and, on 3rd down, Blake Woods tackled the Redskin ball carrier, stripping the ball loose, and Ryder Dobbs would recover stopping the McLoud opportunity. The Lions would take over at the 10 and after 3 plays netted 5 yards the Lions were faced with 4th down and a possible 3rd overtime, but Jared Wrigley found Keegan Graves in the back of the endzone for the winning TD and a 12-6 victory for the Lions. The Lions have now won 3 in a row and stand at 3-2 on the season.
Blanchard will be in action again Monday October 8th @ home versus Lawton Tomlinson. Kickoff scheduled for 6:00.
