Big plays by the Bronchos doomed the Lions Monday at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex as Bethany pulled off a 30-14 victory. A back and forth game in the first half that looked like it would go to halftime tied at 6-6 quickly changed as Bethany busted a simple run play for a 92 yard TD run, then followed up on Blanchard’s second play with an interception return for a TD and all of a sudden the halftime score had ballooned to a 22-6 lead for the Bronchos. Things didn’t get better after half as the Bronchos took the first play of the 3rd quarter for a 65 yard TD run and the lead had swelled to 28-6. The Lions were driving on the ensuing possession when Bethany stepped in front of a Blanchard pass and ran it deep into Blanchard territory. The Lions’ defense would step up and keep the Bronchos out of the endzone, stopping them on 4th down at the 5 yard line, but on the Lions’ first play the ball was snapped over the quarterback’s head into the endzone for a safety and a 30-6 Broncho lead. The Lions would cap off the scoring late in the 4th quarter on a Bryson Frazier to Jaxon Laminack pass. Those two hooked up on the first play of the 2nd quarter on a 50 yard pass play for the Lions’ other TD on the night. The 8th grade drops their first game of the season and now stand at 3-1. They will take on the McLoud Redskins on Tuesday October 2nd at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex.
