BHS Boys Compete at State Golf Tournament
Imagine walking about 11 miles, while carrying or dragging a heavy pack up and down hills and then swinging a long stick two or three hundred times. This is what the Blanchard boy’s golf team accomplished this past Monday and Tuesday, while competing in the 4A State Golf Tournament. The tournament was held at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club, in Ardmore. Twelve teams, and an additional 16 individuals participated in the event. The field included players that stretched from Elk City to Poteau, and from Miami to Madill. The format was a grueling 54 holes of play, split between the two-day competitions. The first day included a 36-hole marathon that lasted from 8:00 AM to 6:40 PM. A final round of 18 holes was begun at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, with the final putt made being holed at 2:10 PM.
The Blanchard team finished the first round with a combined team score of 352 strokes. The Lions improved their score in the second round on Monday, completing it with a team score of 346 strokes. The BHS team improved their performance in the third round as well, with a combined score of 340 strokes. The total combined score of 1038 strokes put the Lion golfers in 7th place at the end of the competition. This fell short of their goal, but was understandable given the fact that two of the five team members include a Sophomore and a Freshmen.
The team from Heritage Hall was crowned State Champion with scores of 311-294-306, in the three rounds, for a total combined score of 911 strokes. Cascia Hall was the runner-up, and Holland Hall finished in third place.
BHS Golfer, Colin Hacker finished the tournament in 26th place individually with rounds of 84-84-81 for a personal total of 249 strokes. Karson Horner had the next lowest score for the Lions, with rounds of 89-85-81 and a total of 255 strokes. Freshman, Montana Deskin had rounds of 88-90-88 for a total of 266 strokes. Mason Callaham’s three round scores were 81-87-90 for a 268 stroke total. Ethan Weatherford rounded out the Blanchard five-man team with scores of 95-90-90. The State Champion golfer was Max Roberts, from Ada, with rounds of 70-72-71 and a total of 200 strokes.
The Blanchard Golf Team and school administration would like to express their sincere appreciation to Winter Creek Golf & Country Club, for their support in providing practice and playing facilities to both the girl’s and boy’s groups. This has been a tremendous help, in advancing the abilities of all members of both teams.
