The Blanchard Lions kept their season alive Friday night as they traveled to Cache for a 1st round playoff game and came home with a hard fought 21-11 victory. The night didn’t start particularly well for the Lions when, on the Lions’ first possession, the Bulldogs intercepted a TJ Chase pass and set up shop at the Lions’ 31 yard line. Cache was able to move the ball to the Lions’ 12 yard line, but the Blanchard defense stood firm and held the Bulldogs to a 27 yard FG. Neither team could generate enough offense to sustain drives and put points on the board until Blanchard’s last possession just before halftime. The Lions put together a solid 11 play drive capping it off with a TJ Chase 15 yard run. Bryce Madron’s PAT kick was good and the Lions would take a 7-3 lead to the locker room. The 2nd half would go much like the 1st with neither team generating much offense. That was the case until Cache reached into the bag of tricks and executed a fake punt for a 30 yard gain down to the Lions’ 26 yard line. Five plays later the Bulldogs would score on a 5 yard run and the 2 point conversion had Cache back on top by an 11-7 score. That excitement was short-lived for the Bulldogs though. After the kickoff, the Lions would take over on their own 33. Cache would jump offsides on the 1st play, moving the ball to the 38. Then, just like most every other game this season, Bryce Madron would bust through a hole in the middle of the defense and outrace all to the endzone for a go ahead 62 yard TD run. The PAT put the Lions back on top 14-11. The score would stay that way until the 4th quarter when the Lions would go on a clock chewing 14 play drive resulting in a TJ Chase 14 yard TD pass to Ronnie Brown. Madron’s PAT kick was good and the Lions’ lead had grown to 10 at 21-11. Cache was unable to threaten again and when Ronnie Brown deflected a 4th down pass by the Bulldogs, the victory was sealed. The Lions now stand at 9-2 on the year and will advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs traveling to Poteau for a 7:00 kickoff Friday, November 16th.
