The Blanchard Lions kept their district title hopes alive Friday when they traveled to Tecumseh and came away with a convincing 39-7 district win. After the offense turned the ball over on downs inside the 5 on their first possession, the points started rolling in. TJ Chase would get the Lions on the board first with a 4 yard TD run and Bryce Madron’s PAT made it 7-0 in favor of the Lions. The defense responded on Tecumseh’s next possession when Diego Ortegon intercepted a Savage pass and rambled to the 22 yard line giving the Lions excellent field position. The offense didn’t waste the opportunity. On their third play, Cole Smith found Jamie Nance in the left flat and Nance took it the rest of the way for a 14-0 lead. The defense was stout again, this time forcing a 3 play and out for the Savages. Once again, it took the Lions three plays to get on the board when TJ Chase found a wide open Chuddy Redmon for a 53 yard pass and the lead had grown to 21-0. As has become custom, the defense came up big again on the ensuing Savage possession when Chuddy Redmon snagged a tipped Tecumseh pass, but was kept short of the endzone when he was tackled at the 6. The Lions’ offense would punch it in the endzone on their second play when Bryce Madron completed the 6 yard run. The missed PAT left the Lions in charge 27-0. The Lions would threaten again before halftime when they got to the Tecumseh 1 yard line, but a mishandled snap pushed the Lions back and TJ Chase’s pass on 4th down to Jason Cresswell was just out of the back of the endzone. Tecumseh would put together their best drive of the night, but the Lions’ defense turned back the Savages on 4th down at the Lions’ 37 yard line. Again, Blanchard would drive deep into Savage territory, but after a holding penalty moved the Lions back to the 28, Chase was sacked on the last play of the half. The Lions would start the 2nd half with an impressive 8 play 70 yard drive capped off by Jacob Schoonover’s 9 yard run. The missed PAT left the margin at 33-0 early in the 3rd quarter. When the offense got the ball back, it didn’t take long to get on the board again. Two plays and 51 yards later the Lions were in the endzone. A 29 yard run by Nance followed by a 22 yard Madron TD run put the Lions up 39-0. Tecumseh would top off the scoring late in the 4th quarter when Raymond Thomas went 69 yards for a Savage TD. The win puts the Lions at 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Blanchard will be in action again on Friday October 12th when they host the Madill Wildcats with a 7:30 kickoff scheduled.
