BHS Men’s Golf Wins 2nd Tournament
The Blanchard Men’s Golf Team traveled to Lincoln Park Golf Course last Wednesday, and came home with a lot of hardware. The Lion team competed in the Capitol Hill RedWolves Invitational Tournament, and won first place. A total of 13 teams took part in the tournament which included several large schools, from the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The combined Blanchard team score of 314 strokes was five better than the tournament runner-up from Wewoka. This was a two-fold victory for the Lions, as the Wewoka team finished ahead of Blanchard in last year’s 4A State Tournament. The BHS team was awarded a 1st place trophy, as well as a championship medal for each of the five Lion team members.
The ideal weather conditions allowed the Blanchard golfers to display their shot-making abilities. Senior, Kaden Upton won the individual championship gold medal, with a two-under-par round of 68. Juniors, Mason Callaham and Ethan Weatherford won individual 5th and 9th place medals with rounds of 77 and 79 respectively. Cooper Gosnell carded a respectable round of 90, and Carson Trent rounded out the team scoring with a 91. Three additional Blanchard players competed in the tournament. Colin Hacker shot a round of 90, and Jacob Craig and Jacob Maston each carded rounds of 92.
The Lion team has performed well so far this year. The team placed second at their first tournament in Sapulpa, and recently won the Marlow Invitational Tournament. The team is very young, with only 2 seniors on the roster. The team owes a lot of their success to the personnel at Winter Creek Golf and Country Club, who have supported the team with playing privileges and individual instructions.
