BHS JV Golf Wins 2nd Place
The 2018 Blanchard Junior Varsity continued its season last Wednesday, with a trip to Pawnee. The teams competed in the Frontier HS Boy’s Invitational Tournament. The competition took place at the Pawnee Golf Course. This is the second 9-hole track the team has played this year, but the extreme winds made the course challenging to all of the golfers.
The Lion JV team participated in two groups. The BHS Maroon Team included Colin Hacker-87, Jacob Craig-84, Jacob Maston-88, Colin Deaton-89 and Josh Duncan-98. The combined team score for this group was 352 strokes. This put the Maroon team in second place, among the six competing teams. The BHS White Team, and their scores included Quade Coyle-98, Garrett Robinson-101, Laine Hall-112, Tyler Suhr-95 and Peyton Pierson-91. Each BHS JV golfer was competitive in the field, which consisted of varsity players. The championship team was Woodland, with a team score of 344 strokes.
Jacob Craig’s score placed him in 4th individual position. The tournament also included a long-drive contest. The ninth hole was a long downhill par 4, with the south wind at your back and no out-of-bounds on either side. These perfect conditions gave each player an opportunity to grip-it-and-rip it. Jacob Maston’s drive on the first nine was a 340 yard shot, which each player marveled at as they passed the fairway stake marking the distance. Maston’s drive on the second nine was a blast of 360 yards, which brought even the tournament director away from his scoring position. This drive was almost pin-high, and just 2 yards off the left side of the green. Coach Queen congratulated Maston on the accomplishment, but reminded him that a golfer “drives for show, but putts for dough”.
