The Lady Lions overcame a 6-0 deficit in the opening round of regional play on Thursday afternoon in Newcastle. The momentum began to shift the Lions way when Cache had runners on first and second with zero outs. The Cache batter squared to bunt and popped the bunt up, first baseman Callie Hacker raced in from her position diving and making a catch then throwing it to first base where Stormy Haynes was covering, Haynes then throws the ball to short stop Carly Craig who was covering second to complete the 3-4-6 triple play. After the triple play the Lions would come alive and eventually going on to score all 8 of their runs through out the 3rd,4th,& 5th innings. Junior Mak Gray would get the win in the circle after relieving senior Avery Schneringer in the 2nd inning.
With less than ideal hitting conditions the Lions still managed to pound out 10 hits on their way to victory with 5 of the 10 being extra base hits in a 20 mph head win. Hacker and Emylee Campbell both had multiple hits in the contest while Haynes, Jayme Joyce, Gracie Steelman, Grace Minton, Avery Schneringer, and Craig also picked up hits in the game.
