Not a more fitting way to end the 2020 Football Regular Season than with a nail biter, edge of your seat Blanchard/Tuttle matchup for a District Championship on a beautiful Friday night at Lions Stadium. The game lived up to the hype and both teams battled to the end with the Lions coming away with a hard fought 7-0 victory and their 2nd District Title during Coach Craig’s tenure as head coach. In a game that was dominated by both defenses, both teams were looking for that one break to spark their team to a victory and the Lions were the ones to get it. Tyler Blackburn stepped in front of a Tuttle pass and took it into Tuttle territory setting the Lions up with the opportunity they’d been looking for, but a fumble on the first play gave the ball and the momentum back to Tuttle. The Blanchard defense quickly quelled any Tuttle momentum by pushing them backwards and forcing them to punt. Whit Carpenter took the punt and rambled 21 yards to the Tuttle 35 and the Lions were in business with great field position and they didn’t waste it. On first down, Colby Langford found Lincoln Smith behind the Tuttle secondary and hit him with a beautiful pass to put the Lions on the board. Then they turned it over to the defense and the defense took care of the rest. Tuttle was able to get the ball into Blanchard territory twice, but both times, the defense stepped up and turned back the Tigers empty handed. The defense, for the most part, played their most complete game of the season by completely shutting down the Tiger run game and forcing 3 turnovers while sacking Tuttle’s QB 5 times. The win leaves the Lions with a 7-2 regular season record and 6-0 in district play and puts the Lions in the playoffs next week at home versus Elgin. With the OSSAA adding a playoff week to the schedule, the Lions will be assured of a home game as long as they keep winning (Week 4 Semifinals are at neutral sites). Kickoff for the 1st round is 7:00 at Lions Stadium.
