The Blanchard Lions traveled to Elgin Friday for a week 2 contest with the Owls and redemption on their mind. Redemption from a disappointing week 1 loss to Noble and from last year’s loss to the Owls in the 2019 season opener and redemption is what they came away with. The defense brought the edginess they had in the early scrimmages and set the tone early that they were here to play. They held Elgin to less than a 2 yard average per carry on the night, had 4 QB sacks, forced a fumble, had 3 interceptions and forced Elgin into 16 negative yardage plays. While the defense was doing what they do, the offense got on track again and produced many highlights of their own. Eight different Lions crossed the goal line showing the diversity that the offense can produce leaving pending defenses to try and figure out who to stop. The ground game was effective and the air game came in handy to take advantage of the Owls when they overplayed the run. The offense took care of the ball, and for the most part, eliminated the big penalties that stopped drives last week. The Lions will be faced with a big challenge next week in their final non-district game when they play host to the Newcastle Racers in the new Lions Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00. Many pre-game activities will take place Friday with homecoming festivities beginning at 6:15 and a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to officially open the new stadium will take place at 6:50.
