The Blanchard Lions traveled to Harrah Friday and put the finishing touches on an 8-2 season with a 49-6 victory over the Panthers. The Lions put together another game similar to the week prior at Cushing. Two interceptions by Harrah in the first half was the only way the Panthers could keep the Lions off the scoreboard. Blanchard would score on 4 of 6 possessions in the first half. A TJ Chase 10 yard pass to Ryan Price got the scoring started for the Lions, but Harrah would answer with a 5 yard touchdown run and after Chuddy Redmon intercepted the 2 point pass play, the Lions’ lead had been cut to 7-6. On the Lions’ first play, TJ Chase’s pass was deflected by a Panther defender and another Panther defender snagged the ball out of the air setting up Harrah in great field position. The Lion defense would respond, forcing the Panthers to punt, but the snap went over the punters head and Blanchard had great field position. They did not waste it, taking 3 plays to punch it in the endzone with a Bryce Madron 20 yard run. Cole Smith would tack on the 2 point run and the lead was 15-6. The Lions would quickly get on the board again after the defense held the Panthers offense in check. This time Bryce Madron would take the first play 46 yards to paydirt through a gaping hole from the O-line shedding secondary tacklers along the way. The 2 point run failed and the lead was now 21-6. The Lions would commit their second turnover of the game on their next possession, but the defense kept responding and shutting down the Panther offense. When the Lions got the ball again, they would put together another nice drive behind 3 big gains from Cole Smith setting up a 2 yard Bryce Madron touchdown run. The PAT was good and the lead was now 28-6 going into the half. The 3rd quarter started with a bang as Harrah chose to kick to speedster Jamie Nance and he made them pay for that decision going 87 yards untouched for a quick score and a 35-6 Blanchard lead. The defense never let Harrah get anything going in the second half as Harrah finished the 2nd half with 3 first downs, 2 of which came on their last possession of the game. Harrah’s mistakes in the kicking game cost them in the 2nd half. A punt to Jamie Nance was promptly returned 28 yards to the Harrah 4 yard line and Bryce Madron would score on the next play for a 42-6 lead. Another snap over the punter’s head on Harrah’s next possession allowed the Lions to take over at the 1 yard line and Bryce Madron would punch it in for a 49-6 lead. Just like that the Lions had scored 21 points and ran 2 offensive plays. Blanchard would finish the second half running a total of 8 offensive plays. After the touchdown drive by Harrah, the defense settled in and shut down the Panther offense the rest of the night limiting Harrah to 40 yards rushing in the 2nd half. The Lions finish off the regular season 8-2 with a 3rd place finish in District 4A-2. That matches the Lions with Cache in the 1st round of the Class 4A playoffs on Friday, November 9th at Cache with a 7:00 kickoff scheduled.
