The Blanchard Lions got back on the winning track quickly Friday night posting a convincing 49-0 victory over the McLoud Redskins in front of a packed homecoming crowd at Oscar Brooks Sports Complex. After the Lions opening possession stalled at the McLoud 10 yard line, the Redskins took over only to snap the ball over the quarterback’s head and into the endzone for a quick safety and a 2-0 Lion lead. The scoring came quickly after that. It only took two plays for Lion’s quarterback TJ Chase to find Jamie Nance behind the Redskin defense for a 36 yard TD pass. Chase got his first action of the season after suffering a broken ankle in summer baseball. The Lion defense, stout as usual, would turn back the Redskins and McLoud made the mistake of punting to Jamie Nance who proceeded to return the punt 72 yards for another Lion score. After a quick 3 plays and punt (out of bounds this time) by McLoud, it only took the Lions one play to score as Cole Smith found Nance in the left flats and then watched him race 53 yards to paydirt. The Lions weren’t done in the quarter though, as Bryce Madron would sweep around the left end for a 7 yard score and the Lions had racked up 30 points in the first quarter. Two more Madron touchdowns would round out the scoring for the 1st half and the Lions would take a comfortable 43-0 lead to intermission. With the game in hand, the young Lions would take over the second half. Colby Langford found Gavin Graves over the middle for a nice 38 yard touchdown pass and a margin of 49-0. That would be the final margin as both teams traded possessions until the final buzzer. It was another strong night for the Lions’ defense as they held McLoud to 105 yards of total offense. Brantley Lawson had a big sack and Colin Deaton and Bryson Burch combined for another sack of the McLoud quarterback. Although those players harassed him in the backfield all night, his biggest nemesis was Rex “Chuddy” Redmon, as Redmon snagged two Redskin passes from his free safety position. Redmon would also rack up 9 tackles on the night. The win puts the Lions at 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in district play. Blanchard has another big district game next Friday, October 5th when they travel to Tecumseh to take on the Savages with a 7:30 kickoff scheduled.
